visualdevelopmentartist,priyakakati Details
Hello! My name is Priya, and I love telling stories through color and light. I’m excited to be your guide in doing the same!
Adding color and light to illustrations is essential, along with the help of camera angles, props, and background design. In my personal work, I try to explore the same! I constantly capture colors from the real world and translate them to fit my illustrations.
This approach has led me to design concepts and backgrounds for various platforms and media, including a recent film I art-directed called "Two Ships", which is currently up for Oscar nominations.
I truly hope that through this class, my love for color will inspire you and bring as much joy to you as it does to me!

Could you please share how you started your journey in the industry?
I got my first job right after graduation during COVID, through a “Women in Animation” tag on Twitter. My first role was at Primal Screen as a concept/background artist, working on a project called "Amira Learning" for kids with learning disabilities. Since then, I’ve worked on various gigs, ranging from mobile apps, short films to projects involving robots! Currently, I’m working as an illustrator for Ravensburger and Lemonade Agency.
What are some common misconceptions about this industry, and how would you debunk them?
I think one of the most important traits in the industry is being helpful. Help people who are just starting out in the field, and those who seek guidance. Beyond making connections for job opportunities, it’s equally important to build genuine relationships with people in the industry, because these are the people you’ll be collaborating with for a long time.
