Interview with
Illustrator JUNA
You taught yourself illustration. What did you find most difficult?
When I was first learning how to draw, there were no illustration classes, academies, or even anyone who shared know-how. It was difficult not having anyone to ask for feedback on my drawings . It is very difficult and time-consuming to find out what I am good at and what I am not good at, and what direction or goal I need to improve . I regret that it would have been better if I could have asked someone and learned from them.
What do you think is the most important process when drawing an illustration?
Ultimately , completing a picture is the most important thing. Light sketches, rough sketches, and doodles can help you quickly present your ideas to the world, but I don't think you can advance them into drawings worth presenting to the world. Especially if you get into the habit of skipping a drawing, completing a piece becomes a burden. Even though it may be difficult, you need to try to climb even a small staircase by completing one illustration.
There are a variety of casual-style illustrations. What are your unique strengths/differentiations?
Many people say that my work is clean, transparent, and colorful . I think my strengths are the character silhouettes that are recognizable at a glance , the drawing style and coloring style that don't cause any discomfort no matter what medium it is used in. I also believe that we have the ability to immediately capture the desired design without requiring many modification requests.
What do illustrators find most difficult?
If you are new to illustration, you seem to worry a lot about what to draw, what parts of the picture are lacking, and how to draw a more complete picture . For those who have been drawing for about 3-4 years, once you have developed the style of drawing, elements that were previously invisible will begin to become visible. There is a lot of greed for quality, but there will be a lot of panic that comes from not being able to keep up .
