Hi, I’m illustrator Sjoop. I have created art since I was in high school, and currently work on various projects in the gaming industry while also teaching concept art and illustrations classes at Propic Academy.
What does it take to survive in the oversaturated illustration market and establish your own identity?

What do you consider your strengths when you work?
My biggest strength is that I am not afraid of failing when drawing illustrations. I mainly create half-line illustrations, meaning my work process is relatively flexible. This helps me pick up my pen without feeling too much pressure. But it took a long time for me to reach this level and get into the mindset that my work is fine even if the illustration I’m drawing turns out to be a “failure.” In this class, I will share how to fix such illustrations and give tips for identifying your current level.

How are your unique strengths incorporated into the curriculum of this class?
This class focuses on layer blending, which allows you to freely create layers of light in your illustration, and post-correction techniques that will make your creation process less stressful. While sharing my work process, I will also talk about how you can blend various and beautiful external outputs into “your artwork” and delve into the overall process.

What are the purpose and unique qualities of this class?
Firstly, I didn’t actually major in art. I started in CG design before watercolor and used to rely only on my intuition, not theoretical knowledge, before becoming a full-fledged illustrator. But this is why I am so quick to catch up with trends. As someone who’s experienced various commercial art styles in the game and illustration industries, my goal is to share my analysis of various theories and commercial art styles from the perspective of the subculture market, rather than simply teaching art theories. Put together, this leads to the basis of widespread “appeal,” so I hope this class serves as the key for you to give your artwork the appeal you’re looking for.
