Hi, my name is Nuventus. As a freelance video creator, I created promotional videos for DECO*27’s Vampire and Weekly Shōnen Jump’s Jujutsu Kaisen, Isekaijoucho’s Ambivalent, and more.
This class focuses on motion graphics using letters. To be specific, it looks into lyric videos that combine illustrations and lyric motions, which have now become a genre of music video and can easily be found on social media. I designed this class for not only After Effects beginners but also people from various fields, including artists and animators who want to animate lyrics. Question.01
What is the biggest challenge faced by learners studying this field and how can this class help them overcome it?
Many of those who enter this field through After Effects tend to make videos by adding keyframes to specific properties, but if you use only those methods, you’re likely to encounter difficulties during the creation process. In this class, I’ll help you broaden the range of your creation methods so you can come up with ideas that resolve challenges you may face.

What was the reason you started studying graphic design?
I first developed an interest in motion graphics after watching the music video for Literature Girl produced by Mr. Takashi Ohashi. Even before becoming a video creator, I had always liked studying letters and language systems, and Literature Girl taught me that letters and sentences could still be perceived as text even when their forms fall apart and they appear for only a brief moment. It was so impressive that it made me want to learn more about motion graphics.

What did you struggle with when studying this field, and what was your strategy to overcome that?
I don’t think you must overcome all difficulties, unless you genuinely feel that’s necessary and want to study more about them. Since the world of creation and expression is so vast, directly facing a problem is not the only way to solve it. In fact, you’ll come across many situations where you can overcome challenges by using a different approach. I think what’s more important than “overcoming challenges” is “constantly improving yourself.”

What is the most important point in designing graphics?
As I mostly create long-form videos such as music videos, I consider keeping the viewer’s attention as one of the most important aspects of a video medium. That’s why I combine a range of elements by guiding the viewer’s eye, developing the story, and adding something unexpected. This allows me to create a more refined flow of thinking so that viewers watch the video ‘til the end without realizing.
