Question 01
What do you focus on the most when creating an illustration? Also, what kinds of skills are required for that process?
I put a lot of effort into arranging motifs around characters and designing the screen because I want them to evoke a sense of drama. To achieve this, I think what’s more important than technical aspects is the ability to identify what your illustration lacks by discovering great artworks from various time periods and observing their layouts.

What is the biggest challenge faced by learners studying this field, and how can this class help overcome it?
I think they struggle the most with line art. My art style may look a bit complicated, but in this class, I’d like to demonstrate drawing and using lines and focus on the “perception” that you don’t have to stress yourself out just because your techniques are not perfect.
Question 03
What’s your view on the marketability and outlook of this field?
I truly feel that there is an increasing demand for illustrations from all kinds of genres, including those I’ve never expected. More and more media, not just book covers, advertisements, and merchandise, now recognize the popularity and value of illustrations. A broader range of genres means a broader range of creation methods. It also makes it more likely that you’ll work on various types of projects, so I think the illustration market will keep growing, and the ability to draw illustrations will be an even stronger advantage.

There’s no need to feel anxious just because you can’t draw the exact illustration you want. Obsessing about doing things the right way and creating “perfect and ideal” illustrations may leave you stressed and exhausted, which is why I want to show you that it is okay to create art at your own pace. There is no right or wrong answer in art, and this world is full of artwork that is not considered “right” but still captivates and mesmerizes viewers. That’s also the kind of art that I feel personally attracted to. Likewise, although this class explores what I think about when I draw an illustration, it doesn’t mean they’re the right answer. I hope my class allows you to understand that when it comes to illustrations, each one of us has our own process, subject, and idea and to explore them in depth to make the process of creation fun.
