Interview with
Illustrator Jii
Is there a specific reason why you chose this specific topic/themes?
I have always loved drawing faces, especially beautiful ones that capture the eye in an instant. Creating attractive characters with their own unique characteristics is the most engaging part for me when I am creating art. Drawing illustrations of couples also fulfills various imaginations, and I enjoy creating immersive stories for the characters as I draw—it's a lot of fun! Because I am a self-taught artist with no professional background in illustration, sometimes I had to learn things the hard way. But my passion for illustration has gotten me where I am now and I can teach you how to make the most out of the resources available to us, making the process enjoyable rather than a struggle!
Could you please share how you started your journey in the industry?
Drawing has been a passion of mine since childhood. I started taking on occasional commissions during my student days not only to earn pocket money but mostly because drawing gave me a sense of achievement. Later on, as I switched industries, I found myself feeling confined everywhere I went. So, in the end, I chose to turn my passion into my job—no other reason, just because I love it. No matter who doubts you, as long as you love it enough, you can keep moving forward! Let's draw happily together and let’s grow to be better!
What do you think is the most important trait(s) to success in your industry?
In the art industry where so many people are involved, finding one's position and style isn't easy. The best way to do so is to continuously practice and create, and maintaining a positive mindset is crucial to staying enthusiastic when taking on new projects. Being fueled by strong passion, and supported by a flexible mind is essential to avoid feeling defeated. Have the strength to understand current trends and popularity without doubting yourself too easily! You are not alone, and I want to help you grow your skills and expand your career in the industry.
