Hello, I’m Duckchun, an illustrator. I started drawing as a simple hobby fueled by the desire to create my favorite characters myself. Now, as an instructor at Raum Academy, I share the theory I’ve learned from various books along with the practical know-how I’ve developed on my own with my students.
This course is packed with practical know-how and directing techniques to bring out the charm of male characters. It especially focuses on the importance of fundamentals, effective study methods, and how to convey emotions convincingly. For those who, like me in the past, are studying art alone and feeling overwhelmed, I hope this course becomes a helpful guide on your journey.

What do you consider your personal strengths in your usual work?
I believe the most important aspect of conveying emotion is the expression of appeal. I aim not just to create pretty or cool drawings but to direct scenes where the characters’ emotions and situations are naturally understood. To achieve this, a solid foundation is essential. Only when fundamentals such as form, composition, color, and staging are firmly in place can the intended emotions be fully captured. In other words, I think illustrations with clear structure and messaging that viewers can grasp at a glance are the most powerful. The style I pursue also moves toward simplicity combined with deep resonance.

How are the strengths you mentioned reflected in the curriculum of this course?
This course is structured based on the importance of fundamentals. It systematically covers essential theory and practical applications needed for strong drawing skills that naturally convey emotion and storytelling. More than mere imitation, we explore ways to express characters’ feelings and scene atmosphere through understanding color, coloring, composition, and anatomy. I introduce very detailed directing points and workflow tips that might make you think, “Do they really consider all this?” so that you can add convincing power to your own artwork.

What is the purpose behind planning this course, and what do you believe are its unique differentiating points?
This course focuses mainly on drawing and directing male characters, but it is designed to help you find your own artistic direction rather than just copying my style. It especially covers ‘male character expression’ deeply, which is in demand in BL genres, games, and webtoons. You will learn practical composition, poses, facial expressions, and mood-setting methods frequently used in real projects. Additionally, I generously share my self-study know-how accumulated through years of experience, as well as tool functions and shortcuts to improve work efficiency. Rather than flashy techniques, this course emphasizes real skill development and style establishment.

There’s no need to rush if you haven’t yet developed your own style. Following trends can be fun, but to become a lasting artist, solid fundamentals are crucial. A strong foundation helps you stay steady amid trends and build endless expressive power by adding your own unique touch. The more you draw, the more enjoyable it becomes, and the more you grow, the stronger your motivation will be. Dare to be ambitious and sometimes take bold challenges. Experiences of pushing your limits will ultimately become your strongest asset. I hope this course will be a reliable companion on your creative journey.
