Student AI used to find it difficult to establish a process, which made it difficult for me to get started on my work. I gained both advanced skills and a foundational understanding of drawing theories thanks to Choyeon. I started with fundamental concepts like giving characters life, comprehending the rules governing how backgrounds and objects blend together, and applying composition and theoretical knowledge to my work. I'm appreciative of the confidence I've gained to keep drawing. I'm more inspired and enjoying my art than I have in a long time now. -
Student BI've always wanted to use drawing to create something beautiful, but I've never really known where to start. I enrolled in Choyeon's class with the intention of learning how to better convey my drawings to an audience and pinpointing any areas that needed work. She has a strong foundation in drawing, extensive knowledge and theories in the field, and experience working as a freelancer and instructor for different businesses and academies. She gave me very useful advice on what to study and how to improve my coloring and composition skills using examples and analyses based on her expertise. I heartily endorse taking the class!" -
Student CI was finding it difficult to make much progress or establish a recognizable, appealing style in my drawings even after investing a lot of time in self-study. The style and quality of my work varied a lot, frequently due to my enthusiasm, energy level, and the references I used. However, Choyeon's advice helped me understand how to use a variety of compositional devices to draw viewers in with my illustrations and make my work more immersive. -
Student DI was determined to improve my illustration skills because I had a strong passion for subculture anime girl characters. I tried working on a few personal projects, but I couldn't seem to get the outcomes I desired. That's when I decided to sign up for Choyeon's class. Compared to when I was studying alone, I've made great progress and am now able to produce illustrations that are more three-dimensional and have a distinct theme. I've also formed the excellent practice of organizing my drawing before beginning the piece.

Interview with
Illustrator Choyeon
What do you think your strengths are when it comes to your work?
I believe that as an artist, if you are going to work consistently on various projects and collaborate with other artists and companies, you need more than a single style of work. You should be able to seamlessly adapt to and accept the style of each project. Your work should be appealing not only to you, but also to the public in general, which means you need to analyze what aspects grab the audience’s attention and what makes a captivating concept. You also need to continue to experiment with different techniques and approaches. All these things are what make me unique.
How is this strength integrated into your curriculum?
I would like to share with students some of the things that make an illustration go viral or get more likes. I’ve included the entire process of increasing the charm of a character, creating illustrations that captivate the eyes of the audience, and just the overall illustration journey in general. This class covers everything I have learned about what the public likes, based my own trials and errors.
Who would you recommend this class to?
When creating illustrations, self-doubt can sometimes creep in. You might question whether you’re heading in the right direction, and wonder when your work will gain broader recognition. This class offers a fresh roadmap that is tailored toward aspiring illustrators who are feeling stuck. It’s equally beneficial to junior illustrators who are navigating a transition into freelancing after entering the industry. My goal is to guide students through the process of creating illustrations that can pave the way to securing their desired jobs.
Any last words of advice or tips to your students or aspiring artists?
If you feel lost on your artistic journey and are struggling with improving your drawing skills, I hope my class gives you an opportunity to explore ways you can increase the public appeal and charm of your artwork. In this class, I tried to incorporate my expertise as much as possible in a way that helps you to build a unique style of your own that still follows trends, particularly in terms of appealing stylization and composition. I sincerely hope that this class gives you what you need to take that extra step forward in your artistic journey.
