What is set dressing?
(Set Dressing)
Set dressing is the process of producing and arranging the objects and props that make up the background according to intention, and is a very core process in creating scenes with excellent storytelling and sense of space . In fact, famous overseas game companies such as Naughty Dog consider set dressing skills to be much more important than 3D tools, so it can be said that it is an essential skill to build if you are preparing for a job abroad.

Why Take This Class?
In order to become a 3D background artist with global competitiveness beyond Korea, it is very important to develop a clear understanding of concept art and 'set dressing skills' to arrange objects according to intention, in addition to technical aspects.
While the academy has only focused on 'how to draw and make it 3D', in this class you can vividly learn about the difference between art and design and how to understand and design the actual background in practice.
We hope that you will complete a portfolio that combines not only aesthetic beauty but also a logical approach with artist Yongjin Jo , who has over 10 years of experience working at famous overseas companies such as Naugthy dog and Amazon, and become a world-class 3D background artist who is also known in the overseas game industry.
3D Background Artist
Yongjin Jo
Hello, this is 3D background artist Yongjin Jo.
After taking a game and entertainment design training course in the United States, I participated in creating backgrounds for various projects for famous overseas game companies such as Naughty Dog and Sony Playstaion, and am currently working as an Environment Artist at Amazon Studio.
Many people approach 3D background art as a fine art without an accurate process, so it takes a lot of time to produce and is experiencing difficulties.
This lecture is designed to help you develop design thinking skills by systematically learning logical design theories and learn ‘how to design extremely efficiently.’
We will teach you everything, from the clear differences between art and design to the elements you need to consider when creating a high-quality design background, and even how to create a portfolio needed for employment in the overseas game industry. Through this lecture, you will be able to develop your own solid story and personality. Create a scene that reflects this!

interview
What 3D background artist Yongjin Jo wants to say
What are the strengths or differentiating points of this lecture?
The biggest strength of this lecture is that it clearly teaches you how to 'logically' approach background design or entertainment design . In particular, I will teach you a new approach to 3D background art, based on my experience studying background art in both Korea and the United States. We will take a different approach from what we learned in Korea and pass on the know-how to create more complete scenes.
Currently, what is the most difficult part for people who dream of becoming game background artists in Korea?
Job seekers who dream of becoming game background artists, or many practitioners, are currently at a loss because they are trying to express their drawings as 'pure art' without an accurate process, so it takes a long time to produce them, and they are used to modifying references. Through this lecture, we hope that you will be able to create high-quality scenes more efficiently than now by systematically learning the design theories necessary for 3D background artists from the basics.
What areas can students improve or gain from this lecture?
For those who have only focused on 'how to draw and express' background art, this lecture will feel like a new world. In the end, in order to create a high-quality scene, quality is determined not only by artistic expression but also by knowing the logical way to construct the scene. If you accurately understand the components of a scene and embody the methods of various artists, you will be able to create a scene that stands out with your own differences.
