Hello, we are Mimicry Meta.
We are a video production team consisting of animator and character designer NIKE Shimaguchi, and cinematographer and planner Bivi. Under the theme of “experimental visual storytelling for the masses,” we create bold and unconventional video works that go beyond traditional techniques and expectations. Our signature style combines animation with live action, and we have produced a wide range of music videos and commercial projects through this experimental approach.
In this course, we will guide you through the entire process of creating videos that blend animation and reality. From planning and filming to editing, we’ll share all the essential techniques needed for video production.

Question.01
What do people learning this field usually find most difficult, and how does this course help solve those challenges?
Simply placing illustrations onto live-action footage does not automatically make characters feel as though they truly exist within reality. I believe many people struggle with this issue. In order for elements from different dimensions to coexist naturally, there are actually specific theories and ways of thinking that increase the believability of illustrated characters. In this course, we’ll share the techniques and insights we’ve accumulated over time through hands-on practice.

What was the most difficult part of your own learning process, and how did you overcome it?
When attempting something that has never been done before, we often faced problems such as “not knowing how to create it” or “having no learning resources available.” For example, filming the perspective of jumping off a rooftop, or making animated characters realistically interact with real-world food. However, we realized that nearly every kind of visual expression can ultimately be achieved through fundamental principles. With that mindset, we continued asking ourselves, “How would we approach this?” and through repeated experimentation and failure, we gradually discovered effective production methods.

What do you consider most important when creating videos?
One important aspect of video production is constantly thinking about how to keep viewers engaged and how the final work will resonate visually. Another is staying true to the original sense of fun and excitement that inspired the project in the first place, and continuing to make creative decisions without losing sight of that initial vision.

Do you have a message for your students?
One of the defining qualities of video is its ability to make fictional events feel as though they truly happened. After taking this course, I hope you’ll realize that creating fiction yourself is far more exciting than simply watching it. If this course helps you discover the joy of creating fictional worlds, we would be truly happy.
