Core Skills
For This Class

Blender Modeling Basics
Modeling in 3D software is an integral part of creating a scene. This class starts by showing you how to block out a scene with simple 3D shapes using basic modeling techniques and how to develop it by adding details.

2D Rendering in 3D
What you create through modeling is considered 3D, but how do you turn a 3D scene into a 2D one? In this class pack, you will explore two ways to texture your scene, similar to 2D anime. You will get to know both methods and see how you can apply them to a scene.

Grease Pencil Animation
The Grease Pencil tool in Blender allows you to create 2D elements within a 3D environment. In this class pack, you'll learn how to draw and animate using the Grease Pencil while studying the basics of animation.

Parallax Animation
You will also explore parallax animation using the scene you created in this class, helping you understand the process of creating depth and dimension in a 2D setting. By the end of the class, you'll have the skills to apply parallax animation to your work.

by the education experts at Coloso to provide a curriculum
that will help customers prepare to enter the industry.
Class Highlights
Modeling Techniques
Modeling is a fundamental skill in 3D, as every scene begins with creating a model. In this class, you'll start by learning how to model simple shapes using the Blender tool. From there, we'll explore how to add complexity to your models by combining those shapes. After this class, you'll be able to block out and model a scene with intricate details.

Shading & Adding Details
This class teaches you how to render 3D models into 2D layers using two different methods: the grease pencil and texturing. Once you've rendered your layers, we'll also go over how to add 2D details to your scene, giving it a more cartoonish and anime-inspired feel.

Animation
While a 2.5D scene alone already looks visually striking, this class will take it to the next level by adding movement and depth to your scene. Through the use of parallax and grease pencil animation, we'll explore how to bring your scene to life and imbue it with a sense of motion.

Interview with
Expert 3D Artists
EmesZack & Nikolai Fletcher

Is there a specific reason why you chose this specific topic/themes?
EmesZack: Animation and music have always been my main sources of inspiration. By creating Lo-fi art, I could merge these two mediums into one. I also wanted to showcase the versatility of Blender, a 3D animation tool capable of producing high-quality animations and visual effects in various styles. Among these styles, I found the visually appealing Lo-fi animation style using Grease Pencil particularly intriguing. Learning how to create Lo-fi animations not only allows you to broaden your skills, but also provides a foundation for exploring a variety of styles in Blender.
Nikolai Fletcher: My goal for this class is to help people become proficient in hard-surface modeling so they no longer need to rely on props from other artists. I also encourage artists to avoid relying too heavily on Kitbashing. Although learning to model can be a long and tedious process, the rewards are immense when you become independent and confident enough to create anything you can imagine. Throughout this class, you'll learn how to create hard-surface models from scratch and develop your skills to create complex and visually appealing models, along with post-production techniques that will give your scene an anime-style look.
What makes your class different from other classes?
EmesZack: What makes this class unique is that we're using 3D software to create convincing 2D animation. There are few classes that focus on using Grease Pencil to create Lo-fi animations, which are both trendy and eye-catching. I'll also teach you how to coordinate the perfect set of colors to match your animation. Overall, I believe that learning the entire process of creating a Lo-fi animation with Grease Pencil techniques will be a unique and rewarding experience for students.
Nikolai Fletcher: What sets this class apart is my background in graphic design. In addition to modeling techniques, I can also share my design expertise, including tips for creating original models and developing strong compositions.
What would be the most important takeaway from your class?
EmesZack: It would be understanding the entire workflow of creating a Lo-fi animation. While mastering specific techniques is important, it's equally crucial to understand the entire workflow and work efficiently when dealing with non-conventional styles of art. A key takeaway from this course is learning how to use various features in Blender, particularly the powerful Grease Pencil tool. With this tool, you'll be able to transform everyday backgrounds into aesthetic Lo-fi animations.
Nikolai Fletcher: I'm fascinated by intricately tangled structures and hard surface modeling. Not only are they enjoyable to make, they are complex yet enjoyable to look at when combined with an anime-style background. I'm confident that learning how to do hard-surface modeling from scratch is the perfect topic for those looking to create a stunning cyberpunk anime-style scene. It offers the complexity of modeling with the added detail of an anime aesthetic.
