Hi, I’m Illustrator Shiba. I mainly create character illustrations and design characters and equipment for games, in addition to illustrating books.
In this class, I’ll share the skills and drawing techniques I gained through practical work and daily practice, as well as my unique ideation method and how to obtain extensive knowledge. I’ll also explain every process—from planning a design, setting up a composition, to finishing an illustration—in detail. I’ll explain character design techniques in a detailed, step-by-step manner for those who struggle with designing original characters. I know many find it hard to develop an idea from scratch, which is why this class will make you practice this process topic by topic, demonstrating the ways of thinking required to start from zero and how to develop ideas and accumulate information. I hope that taking this class eases your difficulties and helps you to enjoy creating original designs.

What do you focus on the most when creating an illustration? Also, what kinds of skills are used in that process?
I usually focus on setting up a composition that gives a more appealing look to the character or its design. Plus, to ensure my designs look original and creative, I research trendy fashion styles to incorporate them into new designs and try combining elements that look unrelated.

While my goal is to teach practical skills to aspiring illustrators, I also want to make sure that they feel the joy of creating an illustration. It will also give me so much joy if this class allows you to imagine your original characters, create artwork in a composition that emphasizes their charms, and discover the excitement of creating new characters as an illustrator.
