Oretsuu
Hello! I’m known as Oretsuu online, or you can simply call me osu! I’m an independent freelance digital illustrator based in Australia. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in drawing, and my passion for it only grew. I started digital art 11-12 years ago, and like most, it started as a hobby — however, now I am fortunate enough to pursue my dream of being a digital illustrator full-time. Being completely self-taught and a perfectionist, it’s taken years of experimentation and practice for me to reach a level of satisfaction with my artwork, and every day, I am still learning. I reached a breakthrough when I realized what I loved to draw the most: illustrations that capture the moment and strongly convey my emotions to the audience.
In this class, I'll teach you the fundamentals of character illustration, focusing in-depth on techniques such as lighting and colour to help you create moving illustrations. This class will also teach you how to make a business around your art, including a starter guide on creating merchandise. Learn everything I know that has gotten me to where I am now!

Interview with
Illustrator Oretsuu
I have a strong passion for illustration, but the most important aspects are how realistic it is in its space, the lighting, and the overall mood it conveys to the audience. These components make my illustration unique and leave an impression on people.
I also really love designing and creating merchandise; it is quite different from illustration, but it is still a challenge in itself that I enjoy.
Illustration and merchandise creation have their own challenges and purposes, and I believe the more skills and options an artist has, the better, especially when wanting to grow an art business.
Speaking from a digital illustrator's perspective, I feel that this job industry has evolved rapidly in the last decade; digital art itself is still relatively new. There are so many opportunities in so many different fields, for whatever you would be interested in pursuing. However, like most job markets, as interest in this field grows, it will become more saturated and competitive. The recent emergence of AI in this field has also been disheartening, and many people fear they will replace their jobs. However, I genuinely believe that the desire for human art will never disappear; machines can never replicate the heart and soul we put into our works. So, if this is what you are truly passionate about, please — don't lose heart and keep moving forward!
I would have to say perseverance and a love for learning.
First and foremost, illustration is a skill that is to be learned. Learning the fundamentals, developing your style, and finding your niche and an audience is long and arduous. Being able to persevere through that sets you apart from the rest. It is easy to look at large, established artists online and think they just got there on talent and luck. But they, too, like you, were a beginner and experienced the hardships and persevered to get to where they are now.
Secondly, when I say having a love for learning, I mean always welcoming challenges and striving to improve and grow. With every illustration I create, I always think, ‘How can I make this better than the last?’ I always try to raise the standard, and it’s how I believe you can improve rapidly.
