Hi everyone, I'm Enzo! I'm a digital illustrator and character artist currently working in the industry as a freelancer. You might know me from some of my anime, manga, comics, and video game-inspired artworks, or perhaps you've seen my work on Fortnite loading screens and on the cover of some Lady Death comic books! I'm completely self-taught and began getting industry jobs around 2018, to become a full-time artist a few years later. In addition to the industry, I'm active on social media and enjoy my time working on personal commissions whenever possible.
I'm a completely self-taught artist without any formal art education, so I understand how overwhelming and at times confusing it can be to learn and improve as an artist. I lived through that struggle: you hit walls, you bash your head, you get frustrated, you stare at a blank canvas and you google ""how to get out of an art block"". Perhaps you're already at an intermediate level, and you have improved quite a lot, but there's still a gap between you and ""the Pros"" that you don't know how to overcome. My journey taught me the hard way how to make the best, most efficient use of my time to learn crucial skills in order to improve as an artist, and it led me to help many of my friends with their art journey as well.
In this course, I aim to channel everything I've learned about art in the past decade. I will show you my entire illustration process from beginning to end, I'll show you the tools and resources I employ, and above all: I want to teach you how to study and practice what I consider the most important crucial, concrete skills to level up as an artist and jump over that gap! I hope my passion about these fundamental comes through, and I hope you have as much fun learning them as I do teaching them to you. Becoming a great artist is everyone's goal, but the true joy resides in the journey to get there

Question.01
Is there a specific reason why you chose this specific topic/themes?
"I want to draw/paint like that!" were perhaps the words I said the most during my younger years as an artist, when I looked up to my favorite artists, yearning to one day reach their level. "What are their secrets?", "How do they do it?". I'm a self-taught artist who never had access to any type of formal art education, and with that journey comes a deep understanding of the struggles that beginner and intermediate artists face when they want to learn how to improve their skills. Trying to find guides and resources can be overwhelming: you may not know where to start, or you may already be at an advanced level but not know how to fill the gap between your current level and what's considered professional industry standards. Throughout my journey, I believe I've identified the key fundamental skills every artist needs to bridge that gap. With the topics I cover in this course, I aim to channel everything I've learned about art over the past decade, show you exactly how to do it, and spill those secrets for you (and spoilers: the 'secrets' are just studying and practicing the right things!).

What makes your class different from other classes?
I deeply think the art fundamentals are FUN, so I'm very passionate when I'm teaching others the stuff I've learned, and the stuff that's worked for me. With this class, I don't want to just walk you through every step of the way of how I make an illustration, but also how I think about things, and most importantly, how I've learned those skills through theory and practice of a few key art fundamentals, and why I love them so much. I also want to be respectful of your time and cut through the fat to give you the right exercises and resources, as no one wants to waste hours filling sketchbook pages with things they’ll probably never use again in a real scenario. As a self-taught artist who had to balance time between art and responsibilities, such as high school and university, I've become very conscious of people's available time for study, and I've gained insight into what works best and what doesn't when it comes to improving your skills. I strongly believe that, by studying the right things and dedicating enough practice, anyone can become an incredible artist.

Could you please share how you started your journey in the industry?
Art was simply a hobby for most of my life, though one I was extremely passionate about. With time, I guess my art got noticed by more and more people, and sometimes it was the right people: I started to get commission requests, some small job gigs and a few more followers here and there. At the time, I was studying for a science degree I was sadly growing more and more disillusioned with. Concurrently, as my art skills improved, I started to get luckier with social media, and the job offers started to become better as well. Before I realized it, I had begun to make a living with art, but I still had to turn down some offers to prioritize my university career.
Many existential crises later, I decided to make the most important choice of my life and dropped out of university to focus all my time into art and becoming a full-time freelance illustrator. I've had many wonderful experiences and opportunities since then, but my journey into this industry is still in its early years, and I have many dreams to chase!

Is there anything else you would like to share with your students?
Art is very subjective. Don't feel forced to do things one way or another, there is no right or wrong way to go about this. At the end of the day, you gotta take what works for you, and leave what doesn't. Art, at the end of the day, is the purest expression of an individual human's soul, whether that's by capturing your own deepest emotions on a canvas to convey a message, or by really really REALLY loving to draw purple mechanical frogs and nothing else, or something like that haha. Each artist has their own tastes and their own personal preferences, that's what makes them distinct from one another and I think the best artists out there are those who unapologetically obsess over their favorite traits, even if they're unconventional! Those are the most memorable types of artists.
