What is the biggest challenge faced by people studying this field? How can this class help them overcome that challenge?
Developing the ideas in your head into a detailed, complete work is an extremely complicated and difficult process. Plus, many artists are disappointed after completing a work even though they felt so hopeful at the ideation stage. This class explores the process of visualizing your idea based on specific examples, step by step. It also discusses challenges in expressing the differences in characters’ personalities and making them more unique, which will be helpful for those who want to create better animation.

When it comes to expression in 3DCG, what are the important points?
3DCG is an ideal platform for creating realistic textures and three-dimensional spaces. Recently, a range of new techniques like cel shading and unrealistic rendering have emerged. In the end, however, techniques are just techniques. The most important thing is to develop a clear idea of the character, universe, or emotion you want to express in advance. It takes a lot of time to produce a work. If you start the process without a clear concept, you’ll end up wasting time and energy. This is why you need to prepare a clear plan before starting production.

Please describe the marketability and prospects for your field.
Going forward, more and more characters and graphics made with 3DCG will be used for videos of all kinds. We’ll see it in games, cartoons, and concert videos. So we can expect growth in the market. At the same time, there are a growing number of creators trying to enter this field, meaning that you need both originality and solid skills to survive in the industry. It’s also important to keep collecting information about new media, programs, and trendy characters, and strive to improve your artistic sense and find new means of expression.

Do you have a message for prospective students?
If you make and share original works using the production processes you learn in this class, you’ll open yourself up to more opportunities. You might even find a great team to work with or get commissions. But what I want you to focus on the most is the joy of creating. As fun as it is to see your finished work, the process of creating it is even more fun. Whether you work on your own or as a team, I hope you can feel this joy of creation.
