From Your Instructor:
"Although my main goal is to provide you with the essential tools and techniques to work smoothly, I'll also cover some advanced features for those interested. I will indicate which chapters to skip for faster results and offer options to delve deeper into technical aspects. However, learning 3D is an endless journey with a broad spectrum of specializations, so this course focuses solely on bringing your character into the 3D world. It won't be a game-ready asset or suitable for professional animation. Instead, this course is about showcasing your creations without diving into complex rigging, retopology, VFX, compositing, and nodes. You'll learn how to present your characters professionally to make an impact on your audience. After watching the course, you'll have the confidence to explore the more technical details further."

2D/3D Character Artist
Raul Trevino
Hello! I'm Raul Trevino, a 2D & 3D character designer and comic author rocking it out in Japan.
I've been in the character and comic industry for over 15 years now. Besides whipping up characters, I'm all about crafting entire worlds for them to inhabit. And guess what? Two of my creations got picked up for potential film and TV series adaptations. Plus, I've got some experience working on game design and transmedia projects for Ubisoft, including as lead character artist on Project Kyzen.
Lately, I've been diving into Blender to model characters. But you know how it is: time is always a scarce resource. I've been itching for a practical crash course on transitioning from 2D to 3D but never found the right fit. It took me a bunch of courses and tutorials to get where I wanted. So, I decided to create my own course focusing on the essentials of bringing your 2D creations into the third dimension.

Interview with
2D/3D Character Artist Raul Trevino
I've always been fascinated by the idea of turning my 2D designs into 3D, especially while keeping that classic 2D anime vibe intact. I was pumped about learning new skills to make my creations even cooler. When I finally brought my characters to life with modeling and rendering, it was like they jumped right off the screen! And it wasn't just me who was blown away—lots of folks digging my work were totally captivated, too. Sharing these creations on social media got a bunch of traditional artists buzzing about making the same leap from 2D to 3D. They were hitting me up with questions about what software I use and how I do it all. So, yeah, once you start getting the hang of these techniques, you'll discover other possibilities that you didn't know you could do, and all sorts of awesome options and ideas will start popping up.
Drawing characters has always been something I've just had to do — it's like an itch I've always needed to scratch. I've been doodling since I was a little kid, and I've always felt like it's what I'm meant to do with my life; it's been my passion, my escape, and my obsession all rolled into one. Then, one day, I ended up winning this international comic contest in Spain, and ever since then, I've been hooked on creating characters for all sorts of stories and projects, popping up on different visual platforms. I've also had this itch to dive into 3D art, but life was always too hectic to give it a proper go. Finally, I decided to buckle down, saved up some cash, quit a few jobs, and went all in on learning these new skills. And let me tell you, it's been like pouring gasoline on the fire of my imagination. So, I'm sharing all this in the hopes that it might light a spark for others out there, whether they're fellow artists or just art enthusiasts, to push their own boundaries and explore new creative horizons.
I'm all about keeping that fire burning for what you love. See, if you dive into a career before you're really ready and it tanks, it can seriously put a damper on your passion. And once that spark's gone, it's tough to get back. Trust me, bitterness ain't a good look. So, maybe snag another gig to pay the bills for now, but don't let go of what you're passionate about. Keep at it, learn, grow, and when the time feels right, take that leap to turn your passion into your paycheck.
