Caro Oliveira's Profile & Portfolio
Caro Oliveira
Illustrator
Hi, my name is Caro Oliveira.
I am a freelance illustrator and concept artist.
I grew up watching anime and playing video games,
and that's how I kicked started my interest
in drawing and painting.
When I started to work in the industry,
it didn't take me too long to realize
how fast-paced it is, making me rethink
my workflow process.
You will learn multiple ways to optimize
your art process for a fast, efficient workflow
while delivering good quality work.
We will start by learning the key points
about art fundamentals with the help of
industry-standard tools. You will also be learning
how to create and design full-body characters.
While developing your characters,
we will also explore different styles of drawings:
anime key scenes and semi-realistic portraits.
All of this, in one class!
So, if you are looking to try out different styles
and learn other techniques, then this class
is the right place to start.

Class Highlights
Basic Fundamentals of Art
We will start by building essential skills that you need, not just for character design but for any illustration. We will talk about values, colors, figure drawing, and compositions.

Character Design
Character design vs. Character illustration. How do we design a character from an idea? We will gather all the references, create a mood board, and build a character from it.

Style Exploration
There are different styles in character illustration, but as a beginner, it's hard to see how and why they look different. I will be helping you to explore and find your preference.

Interview
with Illustrator Caro Oliveira

Is There a Specific Reason Why You Chose This Specific Topic/Themes?
As a freelance artist, there are times when my clients ask me to illustrate in a specific style. Naturally, I had to practice different drawing styles to become a professional freelance artist. For this class, I wanted to allow students to build art fundamentals and explore three different styles. This could be an opportunity for some to practice different art styles and for those looking to find their preference.
What Makes Your Class Different From Other Classes?
In this class, you will design two characters—one male and one female, draw them in three different styles and take advantage of digital apps for a fast workflow. This class is jam-packed with all the knowledge I gathered over my artistic journey, with techniques that I still use now in my work process.
Please Share Your Thoughts on the Job Market of the Industry
Even though the industry is very competitive, it's an ever-growing industry, meaning that once artists reach a certain skill level, there will always be new opportunities for them. Some people may say otherwise, but I would say there will always be more opportunities for you as long as you look for them.
Please Share Anything You Would Like to Add to Your Students.
After finishing the class, it is really important to practice and apply that knowledge and skills to your art. Take the time to do all the exercises and start honing your skills. The learning curve is higher when you put work into it. Also, don't stop and keep learning from other artists. Invest in yourself because you are the best asset!

This course will use Photoshop CC 2019 (minimum CC 2016), Clip Studio Paint (1.11 or lower), Lazy Nezumi Pro (version 19 or lower). Akvis ArtWork 12.5 (or lower), PureRef (any version).
