Shei
Hello, I'm Shei.
I have a BFA in Graphic Design, with a primary focus on branding. Currently, I am freelancing in illustration, mainly on character illustrations. My character-focused illustrations stem from my love and passion for design and fashion.
I'm a big fan of many VTubers and have happily designed and created models for six aspiring VTubers so far. Vtubing presents a vast market for artists, and I can teach you how to efficiently create fluid and appealing 2D bodies for your VTuber clients.

Cutting a VTuber Model

Interview with
Illustrator Shei
My class is illustration-focused, but the methods used to create VTuber characters differ significantly from the approach to drawing regular illustrations. Many illustrators may be very talented artists, but they might struggle with creating VTuber models because the artwork needs to be cut and separated for more seamless movements through the LIVE2D app's motion tracking system. VTuber model-making is more like a puzzle, so I want to share tips and tricks that helped me that I wish I had known sooner.
VTubers and the artist community are intertwined together — they maintain a good relationship with each other. Many artists watch VTubers, and many VTubers rely on artists for their assets and models. The VTubing industry is a huge market right now, with many new debuts showing up every month to the point of being oversaturated. But that's why it's a big job market for artists with many work opportunities. As the industry constantly grows, there are only benefits for artists to branch out and learn new skills and genres. Learning to cater to a new audience and market can only open up new doors and job availability for artists.
It would definitely be patience and willingness to keep trying. Be consistent with putting your work out there. Creativity can be challenging, whether in arts, streaming, music, animation, or more — and not everyone will hit it big instantly. You must constantly keep trying to improve your skills and figure out what works and makes you stand out. Sometimes, the things you might not get attention to might be your viral works, so you should always put your works out there, but don't be discouraged if your works don't get attention this time. There will always be a next time or the time after that. The most necessary mindset to work in this industry is to learn how to deal with setbacks and to keep improving yourself.
